In order to rent a car on the Island, you will need to have your driver's license and an accepted credit card available.

Foreign and International driving licenses are accepted. In order to drive, you will also need a driver's permit, which can be obtained from car rental companies, the airport, or the Ministry of Traffic. This permit costs about $10.00.

Driving is on the left-hand side of the road, and this is opposite when driving in the U.S. Roads are generally crowded. The speed limit is 37 mph.

Parking on Barbados
When parking in the cities, you will probably have to pay. Parking outside the cities is available and usually plentiful at visitor attractions.

All drivers and passengers must wear their seatbelts, and all motorcyclists must wear helmets. Children under four-years-old should be in a child safety seat. Older children should ride in the back seat.

Road contitions on Barbados
Roads on Barbados are narrow. When driving at night, keep in mind that the roads are narrow and watch out for bicyclists and pedestrians. Road conditions are generally good, but many of the back roads must be driven on with caution.
